SOUTH-WEST veal producer John Madley won leave at the High Court this week to apply for a judicial review of MAFFs failure to extend the beef marketing payment scheme to veal farmers (News, Mar 7).

Mr Madley, supported in the case by the NFU, argued that claims for government compensation for veal producers were ignored, despite the sector having suffered financially as a result of the BSE crisis. No date has yet been set for the court hearing.
