Vets advice on disinfectant

JEYES fluid is not very good at killing the foot-and-mouth virus – this was only found after the 1967 outbreak (What disifectant to fight foot-and-mouth, FWi Open Forum). It could also taint the milk, so keep out of dairying.

Use MAFF-approved disinfectant. The problem for many is a lack of available disinfectant – if desparate, formalin and washing soda at 9 parts water to 1 part chemical are effective.

Remember all other means of minimising risk as well.
