Weather holds on for quality wheat

DORSET farmer Nick Harding, at Tarrant Rushton, has combined all his quality wheat before it rained on Friday, “hopefully we will get some Hagberg and protein.”

He finished Soissons last week. It yielded a pleasing 8.2t/ha (3.3t/acre) on the chalk soil. This week they managed to combine the durum wheat.

“It yielded about 2.75t/acre (6.8t/ha), which is not too bad and we are awaiting analysis. We had an 1.5 inches of rain over the weekend, and Im pleased we cut the quality wheat before.”

They have also combined some April drilled Optic spring barley. It yielded 7.4t/ha (3t/acre), “which equated to the February sown crop.”

They started combining Consort feed wheat on Friday. “It looks like a good sample.” They have 220ha (550 acres) of combinable crops left.
