Welfare Council says battery cages needed

BATTERY cages can not be scrapped, says the Farm Animal Welfare Council. There is a risk of aggression and cannibalism among free-range and barn-reared
chickens, says the Council.

Animal welfare campaigners disagree, poin ting to the recent Compassion in World Farming report calling on the EU to ban cages.
