The Royal Show – the one time showcase for the UKs
agricultural machinery industry – took place earlier this
week at its Stoneleigh site. Andy Collings reports
MUCH diminished in both stature and exhibitor volume, machinery at this years Royal Show was, by earlier standards, a relatively subdued affair.
With major shows such as the Cereals, Highland and Sprays and Sprayers events preceding it by only a matter of weeks, many major manufacturers made the decision to stay away – clearly preferring to channel their show budgets into more specialist occasions.
Even so, the Royal Show did have some new machinery developments on display. Not least, perhaps, was an opportunity to see for the first time the new-styled Zetor tractor.
For Zetor the announcement of the new styled, "western look" UR 111 Forterra tractor range – a range offering five models with power from 82hp to 120hp – follows a long period of uncertainty for the company when supplies have been erratic and adequate numbers difficult to obtain.
Only recently has the state owned Czech Republic based manufacturer been sold to HTC and with it, the promise of better production facilities, new models and improved supplies.
Traditionally the tractor for the stock farmer, all but the largest model – the six-cylinder 120hp 11741 – are powered by four-cylinder engines. A 40kph transmission offers eight forward and six reverse ratios with three splitter ranges in each to create a 24 x 18 box.
Other features include a 540/1000 pto, hydrostatic steering, side mounted exhaust and a rear linkage with lower link sensing and quick release couplings.
A front pto and linkage can be specified as can front mudguards, and front and rear ballast weights.
The new Zetor range, marketed by importer Motokov UK, will be available early next year. Prices have yet to be announced. *
