Wheat feed value difference
BIG differences in the value of wheats as poultry feed are highlighted in a new HGCA report*.
Much depends on the variety and how it is grown, according to the Rowett Research Institute.
Samples investigated had similar gross compositions. But their apparent metabolisable energies ranged from 8.3 to 13.7MJ/kg when used as 75% of a chick diet. Work to allow the routine identification of these "problem" wheat samples which could benefit from enzyme treatment is under way.
