A FLYING trade produced one of the most successful herd dispersals this spring when 350 head from the Whitburn herd went under the hammer at Cleadon, Tyne and Wear.
The 156 cows and calved heifers from Messrs R Holmes and Sons sold to 3600gns, averaging £1627.
Making the days two highest bids was Robert Emerson buying for his Grangehill herd at Penrith.
At 3600gns he claimed the second calver Whitburn Inspired Bernadine 17th and 3400gns secured him the 13,000kg Whitburn Starbarb 16th. He also gave 3000gns for the second calver Whitburn Prenut Meg 38th.
Also at 3000gns was the freshly-calved heifer Whitburn NCL Nutmeg 46th, a Norrielake Cleitus Luke daughter, which made up a wagon-load heading for Roxb-urghshire with Kames Dairies.
Herd manager Malcolm Dyso paid 3000gns for Whitburn Astre Lois, bred from an imported embryo.
