Wise to repeat post-mortems
MEDICATIONS against post-weaning multi-systemic wasting Syndrome (PMWS) may continue to remain futile, but the virus allows secondary diseases to take control making frequent post-mortems necessary to identify pathogens, advises Cotswold International.
The companys Reg Joseph says coccidiosis has been recently identified as a secondary pathogen in 7-8 week old pigs. It is normally seen in suckling pigs.
"Treatment programmes had to be amended on-farm to target coccidia," says Mr Joseph. *
