Wolf cull divides Norway
By FWi staff
NORWAY plans to cull nine wolves after the government became exasperated with attacks on sheep, reports The Times.
The Government has spent 1 million trying to solve the problems. Sheep were relocated and farmers were paid compensation for 425 sheep killed by wolves.
But environmental groups are furious that the government at the idea killing almost one-tenth of the countrys 100 endangered grey wolves.
This has led to a stand-off between conservationists and farmers.
Farmer Anne Ulvik told The Times that wolves can kill 20 sheep in an hour, and she fears they could attack children.
She said: “I will never accept that the people in the cities decide that I am going to have the wolf and then I must bear the cost of the wolf.”
