Young Farmers
• NEARLY 150 organisations – representing about 200,000 members – have now backed the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs campaign to Put The Young Back Into Farming.
The number of signatures on the petition was swelled by a big response from farmers weekly readers who returned the magazine coupon (Leader, Oct 15, 1999).
With more than 50 MPs having signed the early day motion in the House of Commons supporting the campaign, YFC leaders are now calling for a meeting with Farm Minister Nick Brown to outline their demands.
• IT HAS been walked, cycled and run. Now the Malmesbury Young Farmers are aiming to drive the 1003 miles from John OGroats to Lands End in a Massey 135 to raise £10,000 in aid of the Cancer Research Campaign and the Meningitis Trust. The twenty participants, aged between 16 and 25 years, plan to complete the trip in 11 days and will set off March 27, 2000.
