RH-J Farms, Toynton St Peter, Lincolnshire
- Farm size: 680ha
- Annual rainfall: 700mm
- Soil type: Black fenland, silty clays, sands
Alistair Hall-Jones has created a sustainable “closed loop” in which the farm’s pigs create waste for processing in the AD plant, which produces fertiliser for the crops.
Risk is spread across the enterprises, with arable generating about 20% of the total bottom line, and the pigs and AD plant each contributing about 40%.
The 250kW/hour AD plant also generates power for the farm, with enough left over to export to the grid via Feed-in Tariffs.
Transition goals:
- Recruit and retain first-class staff
- Pursue technical efficiencies
- Pay back borrowing
