Cornish wheat going strong

Eighty hectares of continuous Claire winter wheat yielded 7.5t/ha for Charlie Watson-Smyth in Padstow, Cornwall.

He said the crop was coming in very dry at 6.5% moisture. He said the yield was good for him considering the “catastrophic” yield last year.

He was also pleased to be getting 5t/ha of straw, but the bushel weight was not very high. By comparison, barley had a very high bushel weight, he said.

Spring barley remained to be cut, but he hopes it will be ok.
