Adama to unveil new mode of action fungicide and slug pellet

Cereals visitors will learn more about a new mode-of action fungicide which is expected to be available for the 2027 season, plus a new slug pellet active for this autumn.

Adama is showcasing the fungicide Gilboa, which is currently undergoing UK approval, while the slug pellet Ferrabait is already approved.

Fungicide

Gilboa is the trade name for flumetylsulforim – an imino-tosyl-pyrimidinone chemistry – classified as having a unique mode of action (Group 32) by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee.

Adama UK technical manager David Griffiths says this mode of action targets nucleic acid metabolism – a biochemical pathway that has never previously been utilised by cereal fungicides.

The firm says this innovation provides valuable protection against key diseases in cereals and oilseed rape, including septoria and sclerotinia.

It offers UK farmers extra defence for crops and is a powerful tool for disease-resistance management.

Ferrabait uses the novel molluscicide active ingredient Feralla.

Approved for use on all cereal, vegetable, grass ley and high-value broad-field crops, the pellets contain a formulation of 12 ingredients, including 1% w/w Feralla (10.2g/kg elemental iron) which is toxic to slugs and causes rapid cessation of feeding.

The pellets also contain a blend of high-quality wheat flours for optimum pellet palatability, and humic acids which stimulate rapid feeding.

Catherine Whaley, product development area manager for Adama in central and north Europe, says the Ferrabait pellets are manufactured to tight processing specifications to ensure each pellet is of a uniform size, shape, weight, consistency and colour.

“At a size of 2.5×2.1mm, they spread accurately to wide operating widths and provide the optimal number of baiting points (40-50 pellets/sq m) when applied at typical field rates,” she says.

“This spreading accuracy, combined with their rapid-stop feeding effect, excellent palatability and durability even in the wettest conditions, ensures crops treated with Ferrabait are protected quickly and for longer against all species of slugs.”

The Adama stand at Cereals 2026 will be located within the Crop Plots and Agronomy zone (stand 1138).
