New fungicide option for leek growers
Leek growers have a new option for controlling rust and other diseases, following the approval of Amistar Top (azoxystrobin + difenoconazole) for use on the crop, Syngenta has announced.
The product is effective against rust, purple blotch and white tip, as well as helping to retain green leaf for longer, said the firm’s technical manager Jon Ogborn.
Up to two applications of 1 litre/ha can be made per crop, up to 21 days before harvest.
“Prospects for the leek crop look good, since yields are holding up well in contrast to many other vegetable crops that suffered over the hot summer,” Mr Ogborn added.
“Leek crops destined for autumn and winter lifting are still growing well in the warm, moist conditions, but risk from rust is running high.”
