Soil adjuvant boosts residual herbicide control

A new soil adjuvant that will help boost residual herbicide control in a range of crops including winter cereals and oilseed rape has been launched by Interagro.

Backrow, much like Agrovista’s soil adjuvant Grounded, optimises herbicide deposition and ensures the residual herbicide is uniformly distributed over the soil surface. “It keeps the residual in the upper soil profile where the weeds are most active and by binding the herbicide onto soil particles it reduces the risk of leaching and herbicide persistency,” Interagro technical manager Alan East said.

In cereals Backrow may be used with autumn residuals such as Crystal (flufenacet + pendimethalin), Liberator (flufenacet + diflufenican), trifluralin and pendimethalin, while in winter oilseed rape it is recommended with metazachlor-based products and trifluralin.

“In trials last season it gave an 8% increase in blackgrass control when used with Crystal,” Mr East said.

But Backrow shouldn’t be used with chlorotoluron, contact herbicides, such as Atlantis (mesosulfuron-methyl + iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium), or on very light soils, he warned.
