Pig prices stuck in the mud

Spot bacon buyers are quoting prices at “stand on” levels for pig deliveries in the first week of October reflecting the almost static DAPP quoted at 103.9p/kg.

Most spot bacon was traded in the 103–106p/kg range with cutters worth 108–112p/kg.

Prices in the major EU pigmeat markets have also remained relatively flat with some processors on negative margins due to indifferent retail demand.

Cull sow prices are continuing on their downward track having lost around 8% in value over the past six weeks.

Sharp falls in German pigmeat values have contributed to lower UK cull prices which are likely to remain at this level until the German market recovers.
