Ringside: Buoyant trade at Sennybridge

Sennybridge livestock market, Powys Friday’s (17 September) Cheviot ewe sale saw 924 head command a buoyant trade.

“We were very pleased – white-faced mules have been selling better than dark-faced ones, so the Cheviots are in good demand to put to Bluefaced Leicester rams,” said auctioneer Peter Francis.

Yearling ewes averaged £125 a head, up to a top of £155, with full-mouthed ewes averaging £70 and peaking at £82. Ewe lambs settled at £79, reaching a top of £85.

Saturday’s sale saw 2600 store sheep and cull ewes go under the hammer, with lambs averaging 156p/kg. “There was very buoyant trade for good ewes that would breed for a year or two, with cull ewes averaging £73 a head.”
