2012 Olympics could be good for the countryside – NFU

THE ANNOUNCEMENT that London will host the 2012 Olympics has been described by the NFU as ‘terrific’.

Union president Tim Bennett said: “This is terrific news. London’s victory is a victory for us all.

“It will provide a massive boost for sport, tourism and industry in this country.”

Mr Bennett said he wanted to see the hundreds of thousands of athletes, officials and spectators taking part in the Games enjoying the British countryside and Britain’s world class produce.

“I am encouraging farmers and growers in the UK to grasp that opportunity and start thinking now about ways they can build on London’s initial success,” he said.
