Spring, where are you?

This weekend has been the hardest of the year so far. We have had so much powder snow and howling winds you could have been forgiven for thinking you had gone to the Arctic.

What happened to global warming? We just worked out that at the same time last year it was 21 degrees and we had got all the fertiliser on.

Seriously, it has been extremely tough, and the worst part of it is that the extra hard work you have to put in doesn’t actually gain you anything. We have been digging out snowdrifts and digging out villagers who have decided that all of a sudden their V8 car with low-profile tyres is snow-worthy – I mean where is their common sense? I wonder if they would be so helpful if I knocked on their door at 5.30am and asked for help starting my tractor as it was frozen. Somehow I don’t think so. It is also amazing that while shopping they pick up the cheapest food they can get and then expect farmers to pull out their new V8 with our expensive equipment free of charge.

In addition to all the adverse weather we have had our main man off sick, having just had surgery. Good luck mum (with your caged animal) is all I am going to say on that front. We have even had to resort to the wife scraping channels and feeding calves.

Spring, where are you? We are certainly looking forward to your arrival.
