Diet feeder put to work on…bedding materials

If a diet feeder can chop material, why not use it for bedding straw as well as preparing feeds? That is the thinking behind the straw blower option for Strautmann Verti-Mix tub-type diet mixer-feeders.

Comprising a hydraulically-driven impeller/fan and an adjustable discharge chute, the rear-mounted blower will bed cattle yards after the vertical auger and its scimitar-shaped knives have broken up bales and chopped the straw.

The attachment, which can be fitted to any of Strautmann”s single or double auger mixer-feeders, requires an oil flow of 70 litres/min from the tractor. It costs about 3000.

The Strautmann range comprises six single-auger feeders with capacities from six to 14.5cu m and twin-auger models from 12 to 28cu m. Different front, side and rear door configurations – with and without conveyors – enable the machines to suit every building size and layout, says the company.
