Milking heifers in demand at Sedgemoor
Tuesday’s top 10% dairy sale at Sedgemoor saw an exceptional trade for milking heifers, with more than half the entries selling for more than 2000gns to a top of 2450gns.
Leading the sale was Roland and Simon Bugler’s Bettiscombe Principal Tabatha, a June calved heifer in the top 10% of the breed. The nine heifers from the Bettiscombe herd averaged ÂŁ2201.50.
It was also a Bettiscombe cow that topped at 2150gns, this was second calver Kendall Miss America.
P J Andrews, Lower Venton, Plymouth, sold calved heifers to 2200gns for Beneknowle Shottle Voalije a top 10% June calved heifer and cows to 2050gns for Beneknowle Lucente Burgundy 18.
Among the bulls on offer a strong demand saw a top price of 2800gns paid for R K and S G Miller’s Moorshard Partner a February 2010 Sanchez son from the Paradise family. Next best at 1800gns was Peacehay Blackmagic a Shottle son from the Raven family from F H Chase and Son.
