Grass keep is making the same – or marginally less – than last year, according to north-west auctioneer Andrew Wallace of Wright-Manley (left). He recently let this field of Roger Smiths at Batherton Hall Farm, Nantwich, for £390/ha (£158/acre). Well fenced ground with mains water and stock-catching facilities is in demand,

says Mr Wallace. Meanwhile Greenslade Hunt report prices 15% down on last year on the Somerset levels. Subject to

ESA restrictions, the grass averaged £183/ha (£74/acre). And Stags say values are

about £25/ha (£10/acre) down on 1996, although

little is available for less

than £250/ha (£100/acre).
