Horse trader handed ASBO for fly-grazing
A horse trader in Wales has been issued with an antisocial behaviour order for fly-grazing just weeks after the Welsh government pledged to take an “aggressive stance” on the growing problem.
The order handed to Tom Price of Glamorgan Horse Traders means he will no longer be allowed to graze animals he owns on land without written legal agreement of the land owner.
South Wales Police which brought the action along with Vale of Glamorgan Trading Standards said they were “getting tougher on those who display this type of behaviour”.
Speaking at the beginning of November, Wales’ farm minister Alun Davies said fly-grazing needed urgent resolution and he would work with police to take an “aggressive stance” with horse owners. He also said he planned to create a legislative framework to give police powers to seize horses.
“Fly-grazing is a disaster for farmers and for the animals and it is a problem we need to get a grip on.
“Hopefully by the end of November we will be in a position to take a view on how we need to legislate,” said Mr Davies.
