Have you got a question about the new NVZ arrangements in England?

Farmers Weekly and FWi readers are being given an opportunity to air their questions about the new Nitrate Vulnerable Zone arrangements which come into effect on 1 Jan 2009.

DEFRA is this week sending out guidance booklets to producers in England and has announced that there will be a package of advice available which will include a dedicated helpline and technical events aimed at both farmers and advisers.

But the department has also agreed that one of its senior policy advisers will answer the first thirty questions submitted to our online forums at FWiSpace.

From 1 Jan 2009, NVZ designation is being extended to about 70% of England, compared to 55% now, although the new Action Programme will not come into effect in the new NVZ areas until 2010.

The new rules will also require livestock farms to make significant investment in slurry storage, although there will be tax allowances of up to £50,000 for people who need to make capital investment.
