Kaiser goes for 14,000gns

MORE bulls sold and a £63 rise in the average was a satisfying outcome for Simmental breeders at Perth where prices reached 14,000gns.

Younger bulls made the strongest trade and lifted the average to £2827 for 75 head. And it was a personal best for Strathisla Farms, Meigle, Perthshire when bidding reached the days only five-figure sum for their bull Strathisla Kaiser.

This April 1999-bred son of Innerwick Glenfiddich has a beef value of 23 and was bought by Mr and Mrs D Moffat, Dunbar, who bred the bulls sire.

Judy Borlase who runs the leading Sacombe herd in Herts paid 6000gns for the overall champion Cleenagh Kenny – beef value 31 – a Carnkern Titan son bred by L Richardson who runs just a handful of cows in County Fermanagh. The bulls five full brothers have been sold through the Perth ring to average £4560.

A bull with an exciting future is Dirnanean Kosova from Finlay McGowans herd at Blairgowrie. He is by Arkmill Franklyn and is top of the breed societys 100 promising young bulls scheme with the biggest 400-day weight of 720kg, highest beef value of 45 and lowest calving value.

Kosova has been accepted by the MLC for the young bull promotion scheme. He realised 5000gns to B Ross, Invergordon, who receives £1600 to cover the cost of semen collection.

Dirnanean Kruger, also by the Arkmill sire, made 4400gns to Blair Atholl Estate, Perth while two other half-brothers sold for 3500gns apiece.

Regular Perth consignor Hugo Arnold took reserve overall title with the naturally polled bull Hockenhull Kramer, a Well House Dictator son. Kramer made 4800gns and now heads for Hitchin, Herts with buyers D Sapsed.

Blackford Krackerjack, a Slievenagh Fantastic son from Billy MacPherson, Inverness also sold for 4800gns to buyer J Warnock, Co Down. (United Auctions) &#42

Strathisla Farms bull Strathisla Kaiser was the only bull on the day to reach five-figures – making 14,000gns.
