Seed list changes
CHANGES to the UKs national seed list regulations will come into force next Monday (Nov 16).
The move follows revelations during the court case of organic sweetcorn grower Guy Watson (News, July 17), that trials of new seeds and varieties had not been replicated as required by the regulations since 1995.
Junior farm minister Jeff Rooker admitted the situation was a "fiasco" and called in MAFFs lawyers.
The lawyers action has been to waive the need for national list applications to be accompanied by the results of replicated trials. The rules will also be applied retrospectively to products already on the national list or currently under trial. *
