Organic manure limit ‘should be challenged’

Outlining new trials with organic manures on five Cambridge Arable Technologies farms using three contractors, CAT’s John Poulton claimed that the official 30t/ha application rate limit was unjustified.

“We’re restricted in the UK, under NVZ rules, over the amount we can put on,” said Mr Poulton. “That’s because it’s assumed that its nitrogen content is immediately available – it isn’t.

“So we think the 30t/ha limit should be challenged.”
