Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year competition returns

Enter the Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year award

The use of plant protection products is under constant scrutiny from politicians, environmentalists and the like. The withdrawal of IPU and trifluralin, announced earlier this year, highlights just how important it is to use existing products safely and efficiently in a way that meets crop needs, as well as public, operator and environmental safety. It is a tricky balance, but for many operators, it comes as second nature.

Now in its 25th year, the Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year award, organised by Syngenta and Farmers Weekly, aims to recognise this professional approach and help encourage further improvements.

It is not about having the latest kit. If you can demonstrate ingenuity and an ability to meet these varying objectives by using agrochemicals sensibly, then you are in with a chance of winning – just like last year’s winner, Iain Robertson from Dorset.

The first 50 correct entries will receive a free ticket to Cereals 2008, incorporating Sprays and Sprayers, on 11 and 12 June at Leadenham, Lincolnshire.

Judges will also select eight regional finalists, who will each receive an expenses-paid trip for two to Cereals.

For the overall winner, the top prize is an expenses-paid study tour to Denmark, plus the coveted Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year trophy.

All you have to do is complete the online Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year 2008 entry form or see Farmers Weekly magazine (23 November), or Crops (24 November).
