Join FW’s stable of talented ‘opinion’ writers
Do you think you could become a writer for the opinion section of Farmers Weekly? We’re looking to add new contributors to our stable of columnists, so if you’ve got strong views and can express them clearly, this could be the perfect opportunity.
We’re on the hunt for people who’ll be able to tackle a diverse range of topics – you’ll be as confident, for example, writing about large-scale dairying and how the DEFRA minister is performing as you would be writing about practical farming, conservation and food chain issues. We want people who can be informative, incisive and entertaining.
Farmers Weekly already has a range of talented columnists, but in this era of change we want to add more voices into the mix. One of our most respected contributors, David Richardson, will also be writing just a little less frequently as he’s planning to work on his autobiography.
Naturally, we’re keen to hear from farmers, but applications from those working in any related or ancillary industry would also be welcome. We’re keen to hear from men and women of all ages, whatever your job and whichever part of the country you’re based in.
You don’t need to have journalism experience – just demonstrate that you’ll be able to hold your own among the knowledgeable writers, past and present, who have contributed to our opinion pages.
How to be considered:
Write 600 words on a subject of your choice – something that, if you were taken on, you’d submit for publication.
As well as this column, send us three other ideas for future columns you’d write (just a sentence encapsulating each idea).
We also want a bit of brief information about you, outlining what your connection is with farming and the countryside and anything else that you consider relevant.
We’d be looking for new columnists to write about one column a month and this is a paid position. The closing date is Friday 16 September. Email your entry and details to tim.relf@rbi.co.uk or call Tim on 020 8652 4928.
